Jerry Duncan for Mayor

Jerry Duncan for Mayor of Fresno

After 25 years of a successful private sector business career, I wanted to give back to the community that had helped make me successful. I ran for the Fresno City Council and when the people of Northeast Fresno elected me I said to them, "Let's Get to Work." Now eight years later I’m happy to report that much has been accomplished.

Crime is at a 40 year low and traffic fatalities are down 50%. Downtown is rebounding and unlike many cities in California, we are currently in excellent financial condition.

Fresno is changing for the good in many ways and your City Government has played a major role in this. Crime is at a 40 year low and traffic fatalities are down 50%. Downtown is rebounding and unlike many cities in California, we are currently in excellent financial condition. I am proud of the major role I played, the many improvements that have occurred, and key initiatives I brought forward to make this a safer and stronger community.

Jerry Duncan and ArnoldRegardless of the issue or the group that is involved, everything I have done has been with one objective in mind, to do what is best for the citizens of Fresno. Much has been accomplished, but the job is not done yet. The challenges Fresno is about to face are significant. Because of current trends in the economy of our state, we are about to go through a very challenging financial period where our resources will be stretched to the maximum. We need a proven and tested person as Mayor who understands how our city government works, knows how the business world operates, and can guide the city through this coming financial crisis

With 25 years of successful business executive experience, combined with eight years as a Fresno City Council member where I have earned a solid reputation of using common sense to get things done, and as a fiscal conservative, I am uniquely qualified to serve as the Mayor of this great city.

As your Mayor I promise this:

"California and it's major cities are in the middle of severe financial challenges.  Fresno needs a steady, experienced leader in troubled times.  That leader is Jerry Duncan."
-Mike Der Manouel Jr.

"With 25 years of successful business experience along with a solid reputation in City Hall of using common sense and getting things done, Jerry has proven he can lead our City to the future."
-Bob Duncan, Duncan Enterprises

  • I will be a full-time Mayor who will be fiscally responsible.
  • I will be a common sense champion for the growth of opportunity for every citizen in Fresno.
  • I will make sure that your family is safe.
  • I will see to it that our government is efficient and your tax dollars are spent wisely.
  • I will be committed to improving our air quality, improving our schools, and insuring that our City grows with the wisdom called for in our 2025 General Plan.
  • I will finally address the fundamental economic opportunity issues so long ignored by city hall so that when your children graduate from high school, trade school, college, or come home from the military, they will not have to leave Fresno to find a future.
  • I will listen.

Ask anyone who has worked with me and they will tell you that I mean what I say. I have the experience, determination, integrity and commitment to get it done.

It’s a place...
  • Where people feel safe everywhere they go.
  • Where those who choose to break the law will really wish they hadn't.
  • Where the City Government is financially healthy, responsible, efficient, and fiscally lean.
  • Where political leaders replace excessive dialog with action and results.
  • Where the roads are paved, the sidewalks fixed and the weeds pulled.
  • Where people enjoy cleaner air and a better environment without sacrificing our economy.
  • With a thriving downtown that is easy to live in, economically sustainable, and is filled with lots to do.
  • Where companies come because they want to, not because they have too.
  • Where there is so much opportunity our number one export will no longer be our children. Fresno will be a place where young people will come to, not leave.
  • With a vibrant arts and cultural community that celebrates its diversity.
  • That embraces and manages its growth while also respecting its history.
  • Where the latest technology is available.
  • Known for its quality and variety of leisure time options.
  • Known as a community with high computer literacy.
  • Where people will find challenging and economically rewarding work.
  • Where every 3rd grader will read at grade level and every 6th grader will be able to speak English.

A vision for a 21st century Fresno.

The First 100 Days

  • Within five minutes of being sworn in, I will sign an Executive Order requiring the City of Fresno and its employees to follow the same laws and regulations it imposes on business and the citizens of the city. For the City to be able to routinely disregard the rules and regulations it imposes on its citizens is not anything a Jerry Duncan Administration will tolerate.
  • Eliminate the Deputy Mayor Position
  • The Community Cabinet will be established and will have its first two meetings.
  • A revised budget that insures a strong financial position for the city and preserves public safety will be presented to the City Council.
  • A citizen’s review committee will be established and will be well underway in reviewing all existing city programs to make recommendations for changes or elimination.
  • I will have a joint town hall meeting with each Councilmember in their district to begin the process of preparing the FY09 City budget.
